About the event

Hello, Shandaken's - Our next PH2 meeting is at the Pine Hill Community Center on Tuesday, June 9th starting at 5 pm and ending at 7 pm. Last Tuesday over 30 neighbors, including 8 first-time participants, shared what's taking place here thanks to their volunteer activities. So many ideas incubated by PH2 participants are now projects known and supported by county and state funders as well as community members. Stay tuned for a list of places where you can volunteer for uniquely Shandaken arts, parks, social service projects and more.

On June 9th, we will start at 5 pm with an opportunity to add to the Town's Natural Resource Inventory project with anyone's special knowledge of cultural and natural treasures.  More about this closer to the date! Bring a dish to share a potluck meal. The food and the information is always delicious. All are welcome.

Meanwhile...two important ways to shape our Town’s future right now:

1. On May 30th, participate in Comprehensive Plan review meetings throughout Shandaken to review and offer input on a DRAFT Plan.  Even if you were at one of the many people who took the many surveys or attended meetings to share your thoughts, it’s critical to reinforce what you see in the DRAFT that you asked for and/or to suggest alternatives. See attached flyer for times and locations.

(Comp Plans guide updates of zoning ordinances that shape what we do in the community. They also help the Town prioritize projects. Grant making agencies often want to see that the proposal is tied to themes found in a Town’s Comp Plan. )

2. Help Ulster County Tourism Department support common needs and ideas for making tourism work in this vast region. Ulster County is big and Shandaken input will be vital if we want to be part of whatever is recommended. County wide 200 people have taken this survey. By the June 5th deadline, a large number of Shandaken respondents would shape recommendations. They have heard transportation — increasing public and managing private car traffic — is critical. They have heard that supporting activities and places that balance resident and tourist needs is critical. Good to reinforce those points as well as anything else you want to point out.
